Going back to today’s topic, if you want to start on the right foot you definitely need to know how WordPress works and how you can use it to grow your blog or your website in the best way.

But let’s move on to the facts and let’s see together …

How WordPress Works

WordPress is a platform developed entirely by a group of enthusiastic website developers who had only one goal in mind: to make sure that anyone can create their own blog or website freely even if you do not know anything about HTML.

Well after many years we must admit that they have fully achieved their goal!

Completely Open Source Platform (free) WordPress is a CMS (Content Management System) based mainly on PHP and MySQL programming languages . Almost 25% of all global websites have been developed using this platform. We are talking about over 60 million sites.

WordPress has become so popular over time for several reasons but first of all it is surely because it gives you the opportunity to customize your website as you please and you do not need to know anything about technical things that can be complicated by the less experienced.

How WordPress Works in Practice

As you can well see from this image, WordPress uses the themes regarding the graphics of a website. Then use the plugins and widgets to add new features to the site and finally we find the functions that allow you to perform certain actions through a simple graphical interface.

Let’s take a closer look at how WordPress works and its components:

1) WordPress Themes

Substantially the themes are nothing more than a set of HTML , CSS , Javascript and PHP files that allow you to customize everything related to the graphic aspect of your website or blog through a specific graphical interface, simple and functional.

Once you have installed WordPress you can change the theme as many times as you want, simply with a couple of mouse clicks and the beauty is that there are really thousands of themes available on the market, both free and paid.

2) Plugins and Widgets

Plugins are nothing more than small programs that allow you to add additional features to your website. All without you knowing how to program, does not it seem fantastic ?!

You can add: contact forms, buttons for social networks, view site categories, show related articles and much more!

To install them, just go to the dedicated section that you can find on your WordPress admin panel.

Widgets instead are always small programs that allow you to add features to the site but this time you can decide where to display a specific item within the site.

For example you could decide to go to view the list of your latest articles directly in the sidebar of your blog, or to add the social buttons .. In short, you are spoiled for choice!

3) Various Functions

Finally we find all those functions that allow you to use WordPress without being a computer expert. I’m talking about all those settings that, if done via programming codes, would take away a lot of time.

Some examples? Well, think how easy you can add a new article or web page to your site, how easy it is to create and organize categories, create custom menus, all with a simple mouse click!
